# Duel Lobby and lifecycle

## Waiting

The Duel Lobby displays:

* Invite Code
* Mode
* Entry
* Players
* Duration
* Reward
* Joined traders
* Ready status

When all required players are ready, the lobby starts the duel countdown.

## Live

During an active duel, the lobby shows a **Live Leaderboard**. Use **Return to Duel** to return to the trading interface.

## Ending

At the timer, duels.trade locks the duel, closes positions when required by the mode, calculates standings, applies settlement rules, and distributes or records rewards.

Do not treat the live leaderboard as final while settlement is still in progress.

For paid duels, the final financial step uses the contract model for that mode:

* Portfolio Duel and Funded Duel settle through a non-custodial smart contract.
* Kingmaker settles through each participant's non-custodial smart-contract vault.

Read [Non-custodial smart contracts](/duels/smart-contract-escrow-and-vaults.md) for the complete high-level flow.

## Complete

The result screen can show:

* Victory, loss, or draw
* Final placement
* Final PNL or percentage gain
* Reward
* Reward Split
* Aura increase or drop

Completed duels appear in **Duel History** and your Profile Hub.

## Leave and cancel

Before a duel begins, the available controls may include:

* **Leave Duel**
* **Cancel Duel**

Read the confirmation dialog. It states whether the Entry Amount will be refunded and how remaining players are affected.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.duels.trade/duels/lobby-and-results.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
