# Create a duel

Open **Lobby → Create Duel**.

![Create Duel form with Kingmaker, Portfolio Duel, and Funded Duel mode options](/files/4n7x5r6ds88QF5IvdAR3)

*The fields below the mode selector change based on the selected game mode.*

## Configuration

The creation form includes:

* **Mode**
* **Name**
* **Number of Players** — 2 to 10
* **Duration**
* **Entry Amount**
* **Max Drawdown** — Kingmaker only
* **Make Duel Private**

## Durations

Kingmaker and Portfolio Duel offer durations from 30 minutes through longer Pro Mode periods shown in the form. Funded Duel uses short durations shown by its mode selector.

Long Kingmaker durations display **PRO MODE ACTIVATED**.

## Public and private

* Public duels appear in the Public Lobby.
* Private duels are invite-only.

Custom duels created from the Quick Match flow are private and must be filled through an invite code.

## Reward preview

The form shows:

* **Starting Capital** and Dynamic Reward for Kingmaker.
* **Reward Total** for Portfolio Duel and Funded Duel.

Reward previews are gross values before applicable settlement fees. Read the [Fee schedule](/fees-and-rewards/fee-schedule.md).

Portfolio Duel and Funded Duel use a non-custodial smart contract. Kingmaker uses a dedicated non-custodial smart-contract vault for each participant. Read [Non-custodial smart contracts](/duels/smart-contract-escrow-and-vaults.md) before creating a paid duel.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.duels.trade/duels/create-a-duel.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
